Logging into Welfie: codes, passkeys, and 2-step verification
Welfie uses email plus a one-time verification code (and optionally passkeys) to keep your account secure. Here's how each part works and what to do if something isn't working.
How sign-in normally works
Each time you sign in:
- Enter your registered email address.
- We send a one-time verification code — to both the mobile number and the email address on your account.
- Enter the code to access the app.
Why a fresh code every time?
Welfie protects your financial information with a fresh code on every sign-in. It's a deliberate security choice — it means even if someone learns your email, they can't get into your account without access to your phone or inbox.
Passkeys (optional, faster sign-in)
If your device supports passkeys (most modern phones do), Welfie will offer to set one up — first when you onboard, and again about seven days later if you skipped it the first time. With a passkey, future sign-ins use your phone's biometrics — Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or your device passcode — instead of a one-time code.
You can also set up a passkey anytime from Settings → Security. To get there, tap your initials in the top-left corner of the app, then choose Security.
Passkeys are tied to the device they're set up on. If you switch phones, you'll go back to the verification-code flow on the new device until you set up another passkey.
If something goes wrong
- The code isn't arriving → see Why am I not receiving my Welfie verification code?
- The phone number or email on file is wrong → see Updating your phone number or Updating your email address.
